Hebrews 1:1-2
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
God has used many mediums in order to get a message to His prophets and ultimately to His people. He spoke to Moses in the burning bush (Exod 3:2), to Elijah in a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:12), to Isaiah in a vision in the temple (Isa 6:1), to Hosea in his family circumstances (Hos 1:2), and to Amos in a basket of summer fruit (Amos 8:1). Each circumstance was unique yet effective to the purposes of God. Through all of this one thing is clear, God knows how to speak to His people.
God’s expertise in communicating to humanity is His son Jesus Christ. No more are the often eccentric messages of the prophets needed. No more are the constant rituals of religious life needed to remind us to whom we belong. Emmanuel is born and we now look to him for the perfect and clear message from God. The life of Jesus, who owns all things and created all things, speaks to us and bids us to follow Him.
