Luke 2:13-14

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

There is a striking video of American Marines singing at Camp Pendleton. The video gives a small glimpse into what it looks like when soldiers worship. However, you can imagine this pales in comparison tho what the shepherds saw that night the angel announced to them that the Christ was born. In what seems like the celebration of a newly coronated king, we are told the heavenly host, an angelic army appear singing praise to God. What is significantly profound here is the movement of their song from emphasis on God’s glory to peace and favor that is extended to humanity.

Let our souls sing more beautifully and with more exuberance this Christmas season as we remember the moment God’s glory extended to us an everlasting peace and great undeserved favor.
