Matthew  2:2

Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

What a simple but powerful question proposed by the wise men who came to visit the baby Christ. Where is he who is born king of the Jews? Think about all signs and symbols that fill this time of year. None of them so clearly point to Christ for us as the star did that night for the wise men. Yet and still the wise men ask where is he?

If we are honest the sights, sounds, meals, shopping, parties and plans surrounding this season don’t reveal and emphasize Christ, instead they obscure and de-emphasize him. Ultimately we run the danger of missing the purpose for this time of remembering the advent. It is the same purpose that propelled the first century wise men on their journey. They came to worship a king. They came to offer him gifts and veneration.

Therefore, during this season, let us take steps not to be so easily led astray. Let us ask just as the wise men of that day did “Where is he? For we have come to worship him.”
