Jesus Christ our Lord reigns supreme over everything. All time, all space, all matter, from the farthest edges of the universe to the very space between you and your neighbor, over the largest planets, stars and celestial bodies to smallest of atomic particles Jesus Christ reigns completely and eternally.

The early Jewish religious leaders of his time tried to stop the spread of his power by reporting that the disciples had stolen Jesus body. In the following passing of time the largest world power of Rome would try to stop his reign by violent periods of persecution spanning over 300 years. After western civilizations grew in power and influence we find claims like those of philosopher Fredriech Niche who proclaimed that God was dead and that Christianity would soon come to an end. Through revolution and counter revolution men like Voltaire cursed the very idea of Christ and Christianity. Voltaire proclaimed that, “In twenty years Christianity will be no more. My single hand shall destroy the edifice it took twelve apostles to rear”. During the rise of American secularism and popular entertainment culture John Lennon of The Beatles said that the band was more popular than Jesus and he was not sure which would end first Rock n Roll or Christianity.

Well, as we look back on the last 2000 years of human history we find that John Lennon and The Beatles are gone and as the memory of the 1960’s fades so does the popularity of Lennon and his band mates. Voltaire and the French Revolution are dead. His writings have no more impacted Christ’s reign than the biting gnat impacts an elephant. Niche who promised an end to Christ’s reign spend the last years of his life insane only able to mumble the scripture and bible songs he learned when he was a little child. Rome’s ruins are now a reminder to the world that eventually all human kingdoms will end and all human crowns will roll in the dust. And the religious leaders of Jesus’ time were overwhelmed by the truth and authenticity of the gospel message.

Through all this the message of scripture still resounds over all creation, Christ has been given dominion, and glory, and a kingdom; so that those of every people, nation, and language should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed. God has highly exalted Jesus and has given him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. It is this highly exalted Christ that we are called to worship.
